I guess one thing that BHP and RIO have over xstrata is that either could make an all scrip or scrip/cash offer. There are a range of benefits in doing this not least being a cash saving strategy for the acquirer. Also benefits for shareholders taking scrip as they may be able to defer CGT liability. Still $8.50 cash would look good to me ...
