The above conversation motivated me to post this:
Like many on here, I too want (dreamed) that the share price would by now be many multiples of the current SP.
The volumes being traded are low, yet the buy side is between two and three times the sell side?
So, why are we not seeing a rapid rise in SP given demand is (appears to be) currently at least double the supply?
As a few on HC have already suggested, the share price can be manipulated relatively easily due to the very low volumes (or lack lustre interest from Australian, brokers, Mums and Dads investors, & institutions).
This brings me to a chat I had with a mate of mine at the dog park this morning, (I have referenced the dog park before, a place for reflection, inspiration and sharp eyes).
He asked me if I was "ready to retire" I explained that I have been ready to retire for 10 years but until the MSB SP kicks some goals that isn't happening.
I should mention that this mate was until very recently, on the board of a well known large Australian company.
He is also very familiar with my unshakeable conviction in MSB .
We discussed the SP and current status of products etc.
He then summarised what we had discussed (with a look of incredulity) as follows:
"Let me get this right, Mesoblast has:
- The only product that can address a particular market, there is no competition?
- The product is approved, in stock and covered by finance?
- The cost of the first two years production has already been worn by the company?
- It is not a luxury/optional product where people can decide not to use the product when finances get tough?
- The people (in the target market) have no choice they have to use the Mesoblast product or sadly die?
- The company has multiple additional market opportunities (he was referring to off label use for adult AGVHD and Crohns)?
- Plus the potential other "blockbuster" products (Heart and Back)?
- Patents, so you have a protective moat, & licensing opportunities?
- Overseas markets and partnerships?
- Well, all I can say is that Mesoblast has what every other company on the planet can only dream of and few if any would ever be in such an enviable position."
I'll re iterate this was said by a very senior and experienced Australian business man who still currently sits on multiple company boards (and of course is just his opinion).
I then asked given what he had said, why he felt the SP was so depressed.
He ventured that given the current shareholder base (i.e. predominately Australian) MSB's profile & general awareness was very poor.
He felt that more needed to be done to make brokers, financial markets and the general public aware of the above things.
Mesoblast should be a marketing depts dream (they should be scrambling over each other to have an opportunity like this to market!).
He said that as long as"mesoblast keep their achievements a secret" we wouldn't see the SP rise that we all desire.
We discussed a number of marketing strategies in quite a lot of detail but to summarise:
"Enthusiasm is infectious, raise awareness of the above and it will be self fulfilling!"
