I have to agree with you William. No matter what your tax rate is, a 100c unfranked dividend gives you that cash now in the bank, and you pay the tax later. Getting 70c now, and saving yourself 30c less cash to pay out at tax time - which could be a year or more later - would result in a lower overall return when you factor in the interest you could earn on the extra amount you've had in the bank between receipt of the dividend and payment of your tax assessment.
