Short-Term Trends Be Manipulated But Not Forever
In the short term, market prices can be manipulated, especially in stocks like BOE where not many shares trade hands each day. If someone with deep enough pockets wants to push the price down temporarily, they often can. They might try to scare retail investors into selling or create artificial pressure through large, strategic trades.
This kind of manipulation only works in the short term. Over time, what really matters is the company’s long-term fundamentals — its profits, assets, industry position, and strategic execution. If a company is strong, eventually the price will reflect that strength. If it’s weak, the same is true in reverse.
This is what investors mean when they say:
“The market is a voting machine in the short run, but a weighing machine in the long run.”
In BOE’s case, the fundamentals are solid. So, if the stock price is being held down now, it cannot be suppressed forever. Sooner or later, price will revert to value.
All Shorts Create a Future Buy Obligation
Every short position, regardless of its strategic origin (be it arbitrage, hedging, or outright speculation), must ultimately be closed. This requires buying back the borrowed shares in the open market.
All must eventually reverse the transaction to exit.

• Returning borrowed shares to the lender
