    Your analysis is flawed - they are buying back shares not reinvesting the money not paid as a dividend. I agree this can be earnings per share accretive and haven't analysed this point yet. One of the groups that benefits most from buybacks are option holders - like the MD! Special dividends would conflict with the personal interests of staff option holders.
