"you can recite a story about polio and smallpocs but these are just stories"
70 years ago my best friend suffered from crippling polio. Others in the town also suffered, it was a common problem. Along came the vaccine and I've not seen or heard of a case since.
My father died at age 32 leaving my mother with three young kids. He died from septicaemia, caused by scratching a pimple on the back of his neck. These days a shot of antibiotics would fix it in short time.
These might be just stories to you, but they are actual facts. True stories. Covid may be a different story but annual flu vaccines seem to help prevent bad flu outbreaks. Tetanus vaccines have saved many lives as has measles vaccines. I can remember seeing young people going blind following a bad measles epidemic. Diptheria and whooping cough have almost been eliminated.
