No that's not my recollection despite the day 1 reaction to his first presidency. He didn't know what he was doing but had smart people in his admin in 1.0. However his incompetence was exposed via his expelling everyone that didn't agree with him including COVID (1.2 m deaths later).
Trump 2.0 admin is different with non expert conformism.
He has always supported tariffs because he doesn't really understand how they work. He is already walking back but he has also ensured no major trading party will not be looking at alternative non US trade options.
The key is to understand whether US eventually sees net trade benefits and USD demand. This seem remote now and not a high probability bet from the key asset allocators.
GOLD will have high vol risk but mostly to the upside at present.
