    Something different to ponder.

Last week Bill Gates put on record that over the next 20 years he plans to give away 99% of his wealth to help solve some of the many intractable global issues, including some of the ones his country has walked away from recently.

Commendable, and it seems the most generous and empathetic of all the 7 major tech bros. Btw, his children get to inherit the remaining 1%, currently worth $1.68 bill … not bad for beer money.

Compare that to Elon Musk who in 2021 set up a charitable fund in his own name worth $9.4 billion at the time … in the years since the most he has ever distributed annually to non-profits is $160 mill, meaning the charitable $9.4 billion in his own name has likely grown in value, but is not so far at least reaching charitable causes. Compare also Musk’s stated aims of cutting back US aid, social security and safety net medical care to the causes Bill Gates will donate to generously.

Has me wondering if Musk’s underlying, never to be stated aim is to make sure life on earth is so miserable, that people plead to relocate to Mars?
