That was my initial thought too. I don't think Ford has done a terrible job, results haven't been stellar but he's faced very difficult conditions on multiple fronts - China bans, tariffs and a structural market shift away from the lower cost wines that have been TWE's bread and butter.
CEO renewal seems sensible and to me, an external choice bringing in new ideas to address these challenges seems better than an internal hire likely to bring more of the same thinking.
The market didn't agree with me, apparently!
