ARC Fellowships in general are very hard to get. Trust me. I've heard values of 10% of applicants (and that's applicants that think they have a shot). Australian based industry tie-ins were boosted under the Liberals to the detriment of other research with Morrison's University Research Commercialisation Action Plan, however, Industry Fellowships are still highly competitive.

HZR will have contributed in-kind knowledge, support and materials (afaik the actual $1.15M goes to Chen and the Uni), but the results will be highly applicable and I suspect HZR would have first hand knowledge, and therefore may even be able to 'dibs' the good stuff, before they are published.
