If we assume that evolution shapes a species to better cope with the prevailing environment, then your example is proof positive of just how slow the process is - under normal circumstances. Humans however have usurped the evolutionary paradigm by drastically changing their environment way ahead of any chance for the beast human to evolve, thus we still retain the instinctual, animal behavior of Chimpanzee's (war and conquest), which cannot be bred out by virtue of shear population size and our propensity for Bonobo inherited humping proclivities. And therein lies the tale of the 'Two Monkeys.'
