I think selling RAC as an investment to friends and family is great in theory, but it does carry with it great responsibility, particularly if friends and family buy in because they trust you and they’re willing to ‘take a punt’ rather than doing their own due diligence.
I’ve spent 100’s (maybe 1000’s) of hours following RAC since my initial investment in November 2020; this reading has made me comfortable with holding during the SP declines and topping up whenever I can. Over the journey I’ve had an average as high as $3.75 (currently down to an average of $1.82) and other than the first few months of my initial investment I’ve spent my entire RAC journey in the red. I’m okay with this and I believe RAC to be more de-risked than ever – Meeting Daniel and Pete at the last AGM was great, and then RC220 safely dosed was the big one for me.
However, the fact I’m comfortable with my investment doesn’t stop me feeling slightly guilty for the 15 or so friends and family that have also invested in RAC over the years (thanks to me) all of whom are also in the red. None have sold as far as I know, but I’m honestly more excited about them getting into the green than myself.
I have to say, I’m feeling a bit confident in the momentum of the share price (again) and for this reason I told another friend about RAC last week (much less complex story to tell now too). She’s opened a Commsec account and is buying her RAC shares on Monday. Hopefully she won’t spend any time in the red.
Anyway, point being, I think if the share price can continue in its current trajectory, other RAC longs like me will once again feel comfortable in sharing the RAC story and there will be lots of RAC newbies ready to dip their toe in.
