You said it yourself, 'India declined to pay'. But India does respect the rule of law a lot more than an asian 3rd worlder like Thailand. Define 'forced' for me. Did they pay after a dispute was settled, or was a trade embargo imposed? Nothing, just a submission by the Indians to pay. Thailand is a country that always has its hand out for money. Thailand always insists that it is the injured party in any negotiation. Even the word 'Thailand' means 'Free Country', free from colonial rule by the English. Thai Airways was bailed out by the government and that is why the aircraft was held. Thai Airlines is in a lot of trouble also because they have been lacking proper maintenance on their planes and sentiment has shifted to safer planes, primarily Airbus over Boeing. We all assume Thailand is a busy economy yet they still expect foreign aid.Thailand receives economic aid from several countries and international organizations. The Asian Development Bank (ADB), China, and Japan are among the top contributors, accounting for a significant portion of development finance in Thailand. The United States, Germany, and South Korea also provide aid, though at lower levels.
In 2022, Thailand received $554 million in foreign aid, an increase from previous years. Historically, Australia provided bilateral aid, but since 2004, its role has shifted to regional cooperation and scholarships rather than direct economic assistance.
And still they shut Akara down with trumped-up charges, because they are always 'the injured party'. As for Thailand paying anything to KCN, it won't happen, not now or in the foreseeable future. All I see is Thailand eventually giving us the boot. No wonder they are slow to come to party about reparations. They don't want to pay. If they did they would have settled the week the judgement was handed down. Just use common sense and ask what game they are playing by not settling the claim?
