I have been to Japan numerous times in recent years and have never seen whale meat on offer so I think many here are misguided in having a crack at the Japanese as a whole (all 120 million of them) and their culture. In my mind, it is a very small minority involved with hunting and eating whale meat. Also, comments linking this topic to WWII are pretty poor IMO.

I agree that killing endangered animals is wrong. If whales weren't endangered and there were millions swimming around, and you could find a way to kill them instantly, would it be ok?

I don't buy the argument that its ok to kill and eat a dumb animal but not an intelligent one. That's like saying if you kill a doctor you should get life but if you kill someone flipping burgers at Maccas, you should only get a short sentence.
