but maybe it’s not a case of continuing US aid in the form it was. It has always seemed to me that it has been very much ambulance at the bottom of the cliff stuff while in the meantime despotic leaders at state and community level have accumulated wealth at obscene levels compared with those they lead
that doesn’t make sense to me if the goal is to eradicate poverty and create peace. Aid becomes linked with geopolitics at one level but also if what i understand to be the case about the aid budgets - reflecting the personal views of whoever has been given authority within the aid organisations
so demand becomes perpetual rather than oriented towards self sufficiency and growth.
some of the international agencies are likewise unhelpful in many ways. They apply western values and economic systems to populations that may well not be ready for them.
Not that I think trump or musk were reform oriented but if the US survives then maybe it will be restored in better form
