I do agree with you that things can certainly go pear-shaped and all public figures are at the mercy of the press and others like politicians with the protection they have.

Which is pretty much my overall point. In Australia, people with genuine vision and determination are often set-upon. Its a strange uniquely Australian thing. I have many (successful) American friends and have been there many times, and I don't pick up the same anti-success vibes there.

I think it is very very hard to really succeed in Australia. Which is a shame because the whole country does not reach its potential when anyone who sticks their head up is put down. Some of the early put-downs of Andrew Forrest are really cringe-worthy. Even today, many articles are sarcastic. But they are usualy written by people who will always be what they are now, no ambition and little contribution to the wlefare of anyone but themselves.
