I have worked in IR on behalf of several listed companies. IR has to be a centralised function. US IR and Australian IR cannot just cooperate loosely.
An IR consultancy can never adequately replace a competent in-house IR team to perform that centralised function, as they will not understand the company well enough. A consultancy is also often more expensive.
So I don't understand the company's thinking, if the IR role is really being made redundant. Perhaps bigger changes are on the way. Takeover? Going private?
If not, I might even offer my services . I can hardly do a worse job than has been done so far (that's not necessarily a comment on Tony Dawe, whose hands may have been tied. Though all those typos and elementary mistakes are just appalling.)
