szaba, I rarely watch videos, I would much prefer to read so I can easily go back over anything that is doubtful, misleading or needs more understanding however I did watch that one twice just to make sure and it's obvious that you didn't.

That video does not mention anything about a Sodium battery except in the written headline. It spends the whole 9 minutes extolling the virtues of the BYD LFP Blade battery (that has been around for years) and their newish small car the Seagull. According to the blurb it is a "quality" small 4 door hatch that only costs US$11K because of BYD's vertical integration and efficient production at scale.

BYD sell a raft of sea animals in Australia but the Seagull doesn't appear yet although it is sold in RHD to the Poms. It was supposed to go on sale here this year for around $20K but hasn't passed Australian compliance yet. It obtains a reasonable range from a small battery because the car is relatively light.

If it was fitted with a Sodium battery it would need more kWh in the battery for the same range which would make the battery much heavier because the law of diminishing returns comes into play. A Sodium battery is not only heavier for the same power the car requires even more power to push the extra weight around. Of course the opposite effect happens if the car had an NMC or Solid State battery, the battery size in kWh can shrink disproportionately for the same range because the car becomes much lighter although even the much smaller battery could still be more expensive.

Maybe you could find where a Sodium battery is fitted to an EV that is more than just a bottom rung entry level model and even better one that is sold outside China. I can't find one, even something as cheap and cheerful as the Seagull still uses an LFP Battery.
