There are two components. The $168b is invested in the markets remember. So no matter what the inflows or outflows there is a core amount that goes up or down depending on how the markets go. Then you've got investors putting funds in or taking funds out on top of that.
In this past month (in simple terms) the $163b invested grew to $167b and then investors tipped in another net $1b to get us to $168b
