    IMO strategically timed.

    Announced prior to Albo / Trump G7 meeting, but after Hegseth & Marles discussed Defence spending levels.

    IMO the US using leverage to get the Australian Government to commit to higher defence spending levels.

    It's in the interests of the US to have another strong ally in the Pacific to counter China, so I'd be very surprised if the US review finds AUKUS should be scrapped etc.

    The AUKUS second pillar was also looking to bring Japan, South Korea & Canada into the fold. IMO it's very important these countries work together to counter Chinese influence, a stated aim of the US in the Pacific.
