I'm opposed to what Israel is doing in this war because I believe it amounts to war crimes. They're using the notion that they're under "Existential threat" as the basis for that. Hamas simply never has and never will have the capacity to pose an existential threat to Israel. Other actors such as the coalition which aligned against Israel in 1967 plainly did represent an existential threat, just as Iran does in the contemporary setting. According to the Geneva Convention there are rules that must be followed in times of war and that includes proportionality of response. It isn't the argument of the international community that no civilians should die in this conflict, but that their deaths must be explicable in terms of the military advantage conferred and that certain methods are prohibited such as the use of starvation on civilians. My views are neither intrinsically pro or anti israel, they're simply that Israel ought not to be exempt from international law.
