Correct - 20 June was the rebalance day for S&P, FTSE and a few others, including the indexes that underlie the popular GDX/GDXJ ETFs. KCN is a constituent of GDXJ so you can expect elevated volume at the close on rebalance day. Most ETF create/redeem activity is also concentrated around the close, so you'll see higher share of volume in the closing auction for index constituents than non-constituents on most days. Coincidentally, you'll also typically see higher absolute levels of shorting in constituents than non-constituents as authorised participants in the ETF manage their exposures.
