I never said this, this was said to me, independently by at least 4 people in my circle of friends - everyone always falls silent after that. I have no love for anyone who uses violence to solve problems, but I have eyes to see what is going on via the various news channels I watch - some overseas ones too - and for a long long time Israel has not been lily-white, but I havent' commented.

Hamas and the young generation of Palestinians - have grown up with perpetual violence practiced on them by the controlling authorities (soldiers, police wire fences) of Israel. They are now genetically programmed to hate Israel by the treatment meted out to them, daily, by Israel's organs of control.

I simply put down my thoughts I have felt over the last number of years or so, every time I turn to this thread, and - if there are some on here - I did not want to upset my Jewish friends, so I have resisted to get too deeply involved in this - we have no chance of solving this via chit-chat, anyway.

I quoted my childhood friend, because he is just as frustrated with Israel and the fact that in Austria no-one criticising Israel 'gets away with it' - and he is part-Jewish, but wasn't brought up religious. He lost relatives in the Holocaust, including a grandmother but has no memory of any of them. His mother managed to survive the war by pretending to be 'Palestinian' but was from an old and distinguished Jewish family in the Tirol - her father and grandfather were both surgeons, one in the old Imperial Army.

I can see what is going on in Europe too, with no criticism of Israel allowed, in Germany this attitude actually supports a now resurgent right-wing, of which the present chancellor is a shining example.

I am simply tired of the 'prima donna' stance of some citizens of Israel always claiming exceptionalism and forever falling back on the Holocaust to justify their own inhumanity - and having found their best expression in a man who is up on criminal charges, but has managed to hold onto power, simply by beating the war drums, and worse.

The division of India was cruel and cost many people their lives, but apart from the odd border skirmish - and recently quite a bit more, it is all resolved (and without 'Donny's intervention) - they seem to have settled into some kind of uneasy 'neighbourliness'.

If we go back far enough into history, we can always find someone to blame, but certain sections of Israeli Jewry, with some posters on here, absolutely thrive on the blame game and use it to justify their own inhumanity to the former citizens of Gaza, who we see being shuffled about, bombed, starved - nightly - on our TV screens.

I don’t care whether you didn’t intend to be controversial or provocative or anything else. Your post reeked of assumptions, untruths, half truths and opinions

your lack of knowledge about history and why Palestinians ended up with controls over them is clearly incomplete. They are not Israeli citizens and are not therefore entitled to be treated as such. Sure those who weren’t actually terrorists or don’t have the intention to blow up or stab an Israeli on Israeli soil might end up suffering but that’s the consequence of decades of trying to kill Jews - well before Israel existed and while Al Husseini got into bed with your mob of compatriots to support Hitler.

the people being permanent victims are the so called Palestinians and you appear to be among those who thought never again meant jews would what - not fight back? Not defend themselves ? What never again meant was -“ we now understand that we cannot rely on the rest of the world to not want to kill us. Well we won’t let that happen”

and so in 1948 while Britain and the US waited for Israel to be obliterated by the Arab states despite knowing every detail of what was planned Israel did the unthinkable. They not only survived and won but they kept on winning.

that’s not victimhood. That’s refusing to lie down and let people walk over them. They haven’t wallowed in the victimhood of being a nation built on refugees, they’ve got on with creating a country counted as among the happiest in the world despite what keeps being thrown at them.

they continue to be a resilient, spiritual and productive country doing their bit for the betterment of the world

but they are simply sick of people saying they can’t defend themselves, they can’t do what is necessary to protect their people. Do you think they actually like violence? Because if you do you are deeply and horribly mistaken.

you tell me what they were meant to do? Sit and wait for everything else Iran and its proxies intended after October 7. Because those plans were known. Not just by Israel but by every single commentator who understood and followed the Middle East. And they were intended to obliterate Israel. Try sucking on that for a while because your disgust with Israel’s response is either a lack of understanding of the Middle East or a lack of concern over whether another Holocaust might be perpetrated

so you can ignore history, gripe about Jews reacting to antisemitism and continue in your ignorance but I accept that years of a particular belief system is unlikely to change your perception
