Grant Smith, Managing Director of Less Common Metals Ltd. (LCM), confirmed at the recent REIA Summit that LCM will build a production plant in South Carolina to support VAC’s (Vacuumschmelze’s) magnet-making operations already underway there. This is a significant development for the Western rare earth supply chain, as LCM is the only commercial rare earth metal and alloy maker in the Western world.
LCM is also involved in UK and European supply chain projects, including the “IndustrialScrap-to-Magnet” initiative with Ionic Technologies and VAC, aiming to produce magnetsfrom 100% recycled rare earth.
