Did you listen to the Inside Business interview with Alan Kohler yesterday?
POM indicated that he had attempted many times to inform the govt of the potential consequences of the situation, but he got the impression that either they were not listening, didn't understand or didn't care.
Re your first point, BSL has only downstream operations overseas (cold rolling, metal coating and painting). There is no overseas plate mill or Hot Strip Mill owned by BSL. The front end operations at PK are quite efficient. I do not see how BSL could make a buck importing product so that they can export product form Aust.
