Rick Rule would 100% disagree with you re the capital allocation skills of Exxon overall. He says they are the best capital allocator in the O&G space ahead of Chevron. He is not wrong often. with Exon we are talking big money, so i suspect the people involved are very smart, even if its mostly smart at making lots for themselves.
Personally i think Exxon are kind of busy in Guyana and thats there focus now developing a low cost oil supply for the US for when its too expensive or unacceptable to extract shale oil.
anyway i think Exon are sticking to their main game and we should not get hung up on what they do or did, we have our own agenda here. Market likes it for now which is good !
