In most cases, the stock price will usually drop by the same amount as dividend paid or on the ex-dividend date. In theory, there should be no actual loss (if same market forces) if you sold pre-div or ex-div.
Sorry, don't wanna sound rude but if you are currently paying some form of income tax, it would have been better to sell prior to getting your dividend.
Capital gains (if you are one of the lucky few) is taxed much lower than your income tax / MTR.
