This would be of enormous benefit to every dairy farmer across the industry globally. The loss in milk production, herd numbers (as we cull affected stock) and additional working hours required to sterilise machinery caused by mastitus is devasting. The cost to Australian dairy farmers alone is I believe approaching $2 Billion annually. Globally its something in excess of $50 Billion!!
However this is also good for consumers- they will get better quality milk from my girls if the herd is mastitus free.
One further thought- what will Novartis Animal Health make of this announcement- we already have a collaborative relationship for Animal Insulin..
