The construction of Australia’s largest undeveloped gold project has been challenged by the area’s traditional owners, who appealed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of the $1.3 billion mine.
The Hemi project, in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, is estimated to hold at least 11 million ounces of gold worth more than $50 billion at today’s near-record prices.
