fyi, jimmy had it right.

1. click on the screen you want to save.
2. select Alt + Prt Scrn
3. open paint et al
4. select Paste
5. voila

tried the snipping tool. didn't even know it existed, but that isn't the answer as both screens seem to come up on all options i tried.
