It really worries me how many people confuse race with religion, allowing the popular notion of unquestioning tolerance to act as a denial of free speech. Here is a woman wearing a head scarf, which categorically represents repressive attitudes towards women, who is being touted by our media as a human rights advocate! Any religious beliefs - including Muslim - are not about race or nationality, and it is not racist or inappropriate, in a democracy, to question beliefs which conflict with our own cultural goals of equality and integration. As an immigrant myself, I believe in respecting and adapting to my new country's values, and in questioning those whose belief systems undermine the rights and equalities that so many have worked to achieve.
