what do you mean American practices? we already emulate their feedlot industry most Abattoirs in Australia were designed with plans originating in The US. The vertical integration model from feedlot to processing is old hat. The decline in herd numbers in the US was not all about drought . They had had a steady fall for a few years . Land used for grazing being turned over to other agricultural streams so the restocking phase will take many years and will not reach prior levels and thats with a growing domestic demand.The people I speak to week in week out have outlined this many times These are people who own and manage abattoirs.I have not found anyone who can ever see how a beef oversupply can happen in the US . Meanwhile the demand for our 90CL beef is unrelenting and will climb . Brazil have said their exports have dropped massively in recent years, In the last 3 weeks at my local sale I have seen fat cows sell at 330 ckg then 380 ckg and this morning I watched the same cows make 440 ckg. Old boner cows , old enough to vote were making 280ckg.The US cannot even come close to matching our cost of production .We went through a major drought a few years ago . You can stand cows in a bear paddock and feed them through our winters . The yanks cannot do that in 3' of snow they chop their heads off . We recovered our numbers in 3-4 yrs its gonna take them a decade to come close.
