I am not even contemplating fluoros or the other savings globes which are now available, but when spent there is a mercury residue - mercury is highly poisonous.

I simply want to replace all my globes with LED (light emitting diodes) - and I don't do it for the government or because of the government or the greenies, I want to do it to save money and to make a solid experiment and contribution to emitting fewer greenhouse gases, because I will be using a lot less electricity; and rather than post sweet sentiments on here, I want to do something practical.

The LED technology has been around for some time and is part of every electronic gadget you buy, but is not generally used for domestic lighting in Australia, however, it is the way of the future.

For example as seen on Channel Seven (Tracy Grimshaw) some time ago:

A Norwegian company produces a light globe which also includes a chargeable battery and which can be screwed into an ordinary light socket. If there is a black-out you simply move a switch at the side of the globe and you have light for 3 1/2 hours; you can also unscrew it and use it as a torch.

Please do the research on lighting, you will see.

    Cheers
