Fish schools are normally composed of the same species, and I am sure the bloom will have also killed any locally abundant species too. Many cyanobacteria are also poisonous, or produce various toxins,, as you will see if you read the links I posted above. In previous years these blooms has also killed sealions and other forms of sea life.
