julia's speech to us congress

Well well well. A four minute standing ovation at the end.
At least she didn't do her Dave and Mabel imitation, she sounded all soft and fuzzy American motherhood and apple pie, which goes over with the warm natured Yanks a treat, and held up Australia's end in dignified fashin, as any PM should.

    BUT.

Bono - the U2 Bono - recently gave Ms. Gillard an IPod containing songs and content material from his latest Vertigo tour - and DVD's containing his stock in trade little speech - a speech he "does" each time he performs -expressing very pro-American sentiments he always includes in all his appearances.

And what does he say in this set piece?

The gist of Bono's repeat American praise goes like this:-

I'll never forget when I was a young boy, coming home from school to watch the Neil Armstrong Man on the Moon TV coverage. And it came to me, from that, that America is great - that America CAN DO ANYTHING IT LIKES - I was so moved by watching this!

    Now, doesn't this sound familiar?

Gillard, ending her speech to Congress, turned on the tears tap again (as she did so well in Parliament recently)
and, voice breaking, tears threatening to descend, told Congress in halting voice that, when she was a little girl of 8, she was sent home from school to watch Neil Armstrong and the moon landing (as most of us and our families were!).

And how did she end - "Through watching this, when I was a little girl, I realised that America is Bold - and that America can do ANYTHING!
This last delivered with trembling voice - and threatening tears." Please, Julia - I feel sick. Sick that you pulled this stunt on our good and true friends, who would have believed in your sincerety because they are warm, friendly people, who have a true love of Aussies because of our WW2 associations.

Best Actress in the political sphere - Julia Gillard.
(And wouldn't they all have loved to hear the vitriolic anti-American rants of one of her Ministers - Peter Garrett, in all of his songs).

Now, one could allege plagiarism connected with the Bono material. Funny how she turns to the tears whenever her popularity is in trouble - as when Anna Bligh outdid her in the leadership department during the floods. What did Gillard then trot out - a Shakespearean actress performance, and tears, during Question Time.

When she was Deputy PM, and 173 men, women, children, and babies, died the most ghastly, horrible deaths fleeing the monster bushfires in the Yarra Ranges and beyond on Black Saturday, February 2009, I did not see one tear descend the Gillard cheek! I did not hear one termbling voice speech from her - nor do I recall her ever appearing personally in those devastated areas - despite Victoria being her (now) home State.

The rest of Gillard's speech included a reference to the perils of Global Warming, and repetitive "We have always been America's friends - we are America's friends - and we will always be America's friends". Sentiments bound to engender thunderous applause - the same appluase enjoyed by John Howard a few years back.

I wonder if Congress knew that Gillard, when President of the heavily Left/Communist Australian Students Union, would have given strident and bitter speeches in her criticisms and hatred of anything USA, the Vietnam War, and her anti-Americans in Iraq speeches of the mid 2000's.

For hating the USA is standard dogma of the Far Left!

I then find it hugely hypocritical for her now to stand there and tell their Congress that when she was a little girl she thought they were so magnificent - and she cried over this lie, to their Congress, for personal effect and sympathy.

But better for us that Congress, all unknown to them, thought she was genuine. We, rose-colored blinkers off, know better!
