I just thought with the possible disturbance that a flying object may have cause an issue to the birds in that small location. The injuries to the birds just seemes a bit suss (assuming from report), not just from hitting the ground.
I have no other idea, just a wild guess (unscientific guess). ----------
Pollution or lack of air for the fish, some are more effected than others (those issues) and the species that died may have already been stressed.
