Lordy....it's an eysore viewed from the west side but as far as I'm aware it doesn't pollute or smell.
Another issue of concern with the mill is the fact that they intend to burn wood waste to the equivalent of 50,000 domestic wood heaters while the local council is paying people $500 to remove individual wood heaters to reduce air pollution.
Any numbers I see in relation to the mill seem huge to me and, speaking as a layman, it bothers me that it could be too big for this small state.
If they had stuck with the RPDC assessment and passed the tests, no one could object to the development, but the political "fast track" has left a lot of the population concerned.
Adding to that, section 11 of the Pulp Mill Assessment Act disallows any member of the public taking legal action against Gunns for any reason whatsoever.
Less spin and more transparency would go a long way to winning public support.
