    Certainly, it's always possible, however in this case the mistake on my part is that it was three days ago not a week....funny how time telescopes.

    PD, it seems to me that the major value of the carbon tax is to enable the greener forms of energy production to compete. Thus, nuclear power only becomes viable if we have a carbon tax to raise the coal based power charges.

    This would seem to me to be a valid purpose for the tax. There are however many negatives that without explantion and further details from government make acceptance of the tax difficult. I worry in particular about offsets for major polluters and the potential disadvantaging of Australian industry. Finally, if we "go it alone" what guarantee is there that the world will follow....Our contribution is, after all, minimal in global terms even if it is very high per capita.
