It is China that will decide the extent of nuclear power usage in the future. The powers to be in China don't need to worry about public sentiment and have in fact stated that the events in Japan will not stop their country's pursuit of energy derived from nuclear power generators. The nuclear power plants in Japan are around 40 years old yet have managed to survive an event that far exceeded any expected external threat. Newer plants will be build with even greated safety features. I don't see this event stopping the thrust of nuclear power being adopted by the likes of India and China, they simply don't have any viable alternatives
