I think it more likely the Americans were involved at the end of the second world war. They hoovered up all the silver in China while Chiang Kai Chek was still there, to the value of billions in today's currency- it's well documented. Maybe the Brits were preparing to ship those silver bars to the States as some kind of war reparations
prior to independence but things went wrong & they decided to stash it rather than let a bunch of fat Indian
socialists & communists get their hands on it. Like they
burned naughty behaviour police records about the maharajahs to prevent Congress getting holier than thou afterwards.
With 50 plus wasted years of socialism in India hiding one's assets has become an art form to avoid all the corruption & red tape. Buying a house is rather different there than in Oz.But if you have an Indian friend you can trust them more than your neighbour in Double Bay or St Kilda.
Sorry for rant- but real physical silver is a great story wherever it's found.
