This sounds as though he objected to the drilling due to his conjecture that the tenament may not be worthy to be explored which is hardly his responsibility or area of concern. This is a commercial consideration for SRQ and ARE.
Again, on the subject of public interest. When has it ever been exactly a matter of public interest whether OZL or BHP decided to explore a particular area in SA. Although, blind Freddie can it it would be a matter of public benefit if the exploration leads to discovery and then to mining resulting in more corporate tax and royalties.
Given this (and the attacks on SRQ/ARE), one can be forgiven to speculate he may have some kind of a personal agenda to throw the spanner in the works. Pretty flimsy case...
