"Bottom line IMO is that nuclear power stations alone are producing an enormous volume of radioactive waste, waste that must be managed for tens and in many cases hundreds of years to come. Who's going to take responsibility for management of this poison?"

    Hi Wealthcrea8or,

I wondered when did the Japanese rebuild Hiroshima after Atomic bomb on 6 Aug.1945.

    I goggle this at, http://atomicbombmuseum.org/4_ruins.shtml

Hiroshima?s population, down to roughly 83,000 soon after the bombing, swelled to 169,000 by February of 1946. But only some 6,500 lived in the city?s center, i.e., within Close space 1 kilometer of ground zero. For several years more, population growth was concentrated at the same remove from the city?s devastated center. The increase was largely due to the return of evacuated persons, civilians repatriated from overseas colonies, and demobilized military personnel.

Bombed 6 Aug. 1945, population swelled to 169,000 by Feb.1946.And have been living there ever since.

    also,

"Seems almost everyone has an opinion on uranium and nuclear power since the terrible incident in Japan recently?"

Are you talking about the tsunami which cost the loss of tens of thousands lives and homes.

Or the incident at the nuclear reactor site where nobody has died from radiation.

I think you are over reacting and not focusing on the real problem of location.

I would do some more research to ease your fears.

In fact, 40yr.old reactors have survived a 9M Earthquake followed by a huge Tsunami is very comforting. Sure few problems as would be expected. I am sure that the Nuclear Bodies will learn from this. Modern Day reactors have come along way.

More people die in coal mining.

    cheers,
