The principal holder of EPC 550 is, ENEX TOGARA PTY LIMITED, an Xstrata Coal principal subsidiary
Coal occurs in Rangal Coal Measures of Late Permian age, dipping gently at approximately 2 degrees to the southwest. Four coal seams are present which are variable in distribution and thickness due to seam splitting. They are: Aries, Castor, Pollux & Orion seams. The Pollux seam is the only continuous seam with a typical seam thickness generally exceeding 3m and up to 7m in two local areas. Significant thicknesses of Cainozoic basalt overlie the deposit.
Comments: In February 2002, Swiss-based commodities group Xstrata Plc purchased the share previously held by Glencore International AG through Enex Togara Pty Ltd. In June 2002, a native title agreement was reached between the mining company, the local peoples, and the Gurang Land Council, paving the way for the project to procees. Development is now pending further environmental and feasibility studies and the grant of a mining lease.
