You don't have to have any aboriginal genetics to qualify as aboriginal. You just have to say you are one.
I did some googling on it. There is a good, succinct ALRC paper on it.
There was once a three part test to qualify as an aboriginal; a) Some genetic link and b)community acceptance and c)self identification.
Judgements by Justice Drummond in 1995 and Merkel in 1998 changed this. The genetic requirement was removed because one can be adopted into the aboriginal community and the community recognition requirement was removed because people drift away from their roots.
Hence as Justice Dummond said "self Identification alone" is sufficient. You can just say you are aboriginal with no justification required.
