I thought that if you sell before the takeover is compulsory then CGT applies but otherwise not (or at least I understood that some sort of CGT relief came into play). Certainly I thought that if its a share swap (scrip offer) then no CGT would apply until you sold those new shares. I'm probably completely wrong but this was my impression.
