"I'm sure you will excuse my spelling, I don't have a Phd."
Yes, erm, I gathered that my good fellow.
"Oh and one more thing. If you're convinced we're going to burn and we need a tax to save us, why are you wasting your time in Australia when you should be over in China or India preaching to them to cut down on their CO2?"
Not sure what you mean about us all going to burn. Firstly, I don't speak Mandarin or any Indian dialects, so I'm afraid I'd be about as useful to them as you would. Secondly, you'd probably whinge about people like me getting their university education at taxpayer expende and then buggering off overseas. I serve my country as a scientist.
The fundamental answer to your simple questions is that the environment is dynamic and that it goes through cycles. I'm sure this is what you are eluding to - right? Maybe you've read about Milankovitch cycles, if not:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
For example, if you're interested in finding out why Greenland was green, read this:
http://www.skepticalscience.com/greenland-used-to-be-green.htm
All the examples you give are of "localised" climate change, what we are seeing now is quite different because it is a GLOBAL phenomenon.
Scientists aren't your enemies, most of them are honestly trying to help.
What you (any many others in the general public) fail to understand is that
