thanks a lot for the extra info. i will have a closer look at the cgt rules on the ato site to update myself tomorrow and see how it can or will apply to my circumstances. i might need to have another chat to my accountant too. i tend to buy n hold shares for the long term and don't turn many over but it always pays to play by the rules, even if you don't like em.
