No!...No!...CEOs don't get to such positions taking into account their family. Family life is not part of their make-up. Anyone who believes that PM is leaving for family reasons is truly deluding themselves.
PM would not, repeat would not be leaving the post if a Billiton deal was almost inked - you can bet your last investment dollar on that.
This announcement does not pass the sniff test. Paul and the Board are obviously not getting on and a deal with Billiton is now dead...oh...better not forget to say...imho.
I actually have a little bit of time for PM. I suspect what happened is a Billiton deal is now dead and the board wants to take on more risk than Paul is comfortable with. He has been a steady hand on the wheel during his tenure and I doubt he would be willing to throw the money away that he has (to his credit) built up.
