As to your other question, it's a case of marketing the stock to Broking houses, so that they buy the stock for their clients, thus pushing the SP (and therefore the Market Cap) up.
Companies do this all the time. They also market their product/service to potential buyers of their product/service, but FT is talking about the company marketing itself to Brokers.
