Can you imagine a bevy of posts because to some it means:
NO THUMBS TODAY!
MY LOVE HAS GONE AWAY!
Why not tell it as it is and focus on the real problem. Too many improper posts and thumbs being allotted according to political bent. The mods and admin have told us. What more can be said? Top posts featured content that admin has said was nonsense.
The thumbs were so polarised according to which side of politics that if a conservative posted an article or newspoll result it would get quite a lot of thumbs ups. If I or DaveR posted exactly the same article or poll it would receive none.
Surely we are all smart enough to decide which posters we want to read and which we dont. On the stocks forums I received a stack of thumbs ups. On politics next to none, but I know most of you still read my posts because they get lots of views and get responded to. So thumbs on this forum were mainly used as means to rub it into the opposing side and also for the majority to hog the top posts so they got a wider readership.
Admin have put paid to the top thumbed political posts appearing in the site overall top posts and this now makes it less attractive for political cliques to operate here as they wont get the benefit of spruiking to the wider membership and thats a good thing. The site ought not be able to be manipulated for political purposes. I will bet the tune on thumbs would change for some if a couple of thousand labor or greens supporters joined the site and hogged the thumbs system lol.
I think by HC have averted a major issue by taking the steps they have and the forum will probably now only be used by bona fide HC members who mainly are here for the stocks side and participate in political banter as a side issue.
If thumbs are to return confined to this forum and not the main top posts I do agree that Zonetraders suggestion that only thumbs ups be used is a good compromise and a positive one. Those who place great store in thumbs can still decide which to read by choosing those with the greatest number of thumbs. Of course in my case that will mean they wont be reading my posts. I wonder whether they are fibbing about that as I still seem to get a lot of views lol.
Maybe Zonetraders suggestion is the way to go. Then those who love their thumbs can go "Ooooooh! Ive got more thumbs than eagle Ooooooooh!"
Folks can you believe it. This is the prime stockchat forum in Australia and here we are rabbitting on and wasting time waffling about THUMBS?? Me included! Wheres the straight jacket lol??
